Volunteer With Us
There’s no better way to experience Australian native animals than by working with them on the Sanctuary. You will live a real Aussie adventure while helping!
Nina’s Ark Wildlife Sanctuary wouldn’t be the same without the help of many volunteers.
Would you like to volunteer with us?
The Program: We operate the Sanctuary ourselves with the help of many volunteers from around the globe. Volunteer tasks include helping to prepare food and feeding animals daily (including giving bottles to babies), cleaning animal areas and working on special projects that arise (e.g. building or repairing fences or caging—no prior experience or skills needed).
We also operate a small eco friendly educational tour to booked clients and school groups. So assistance in this is expected. You will be an expert on Australian animals by the time you leave.
Minimum Stay: 2 weeks, with an initial 3-day trial period to make sure it’s a good fit for both host and volunteer. We don’t accept volunteers during the wet season (Nov-March). Bookings start every January.
Accommodation: On the homestead Two small cabins with two beds each and a fan; flush toilet in the park and private outdoor shower. We provide three meals/day in the main house and we don’t cater to special diets.
Location: We are located two hours from Darwin and 20 min from Batchelor, but there is no local transport available. You will need to work with us to arrange a pick-up location and date/time near Darwin as we only drive into the city once per week. It is advisable to arrive the day before pick up as we have limited time in Darwin.
Other Details: We are very remote because of this we have Starlink. Wi-Fi is available around the main house. If you wish to use it please find a shady spot in the garden to call or catch up with friends.
Cost: We ask for a $50 per week non-refundable contribution from all of our volunteers to cover the costs of feeding and transport to and from pickup in Palmerston City.
After the first initial two weeks if you wish to stay on there is no cost. Nina’s Ark is a very large place so it takes a lot of money to run. Also, I have found that volunteers that pay on booking are reliable and rarely cancel. Exceptions will be considered as long as enough notice and reason is given.

Wildlife carers are able to send their animals to the Sanctuary for rehabilitation and release. You can request photos of animals in care at time of joining.
